out what mr. romney so eloquently said in that debate. talking about politics of the 1% or the 47%, conservatives want the best for all folks, and yes, we mean thewe don't want them trapped in poverty. we want them married, paying their taxes -- host: we will get katrina vanden heuvel's response. guest: yeah. listen, if marriage will promote the well-being of the couple, children, great. but in my mind, it is and not just that. that is too simplistic. it is part of the equation. without good jobs, without ensuring that workers have rights and a time -- at the time when big business is so powerful, without doing small things that happened around this country but have taken too much effort, giving women, families early child care, the sense of a community coming together to lift up families, marriages not sufficient. to reduce it to that is too simplistic. no one is saying marriage isn't important. it is not the only a factor in building a family that is doing well. the fact that jobs to date are low-paying is a terrible problem, and i would link this to the poverty issue. we have a

worst of the fiscal club as much rosier perhaps -- fiscal cliff is much rosier. mitt romney took a step back by insisting that overall, net tax revenues from the highest income people would not decline. i had not heard him emphasize that until the debate. that shows you where the wind is blowing. i think the election, a combination of the election and, more importantly, the fiscal cliff where the rate goes up next is more possible than it would be a year ago. >> if republicans do well, doesn't make sense that sticking with their argument would work better for them? >> i don't think they will do that well. second, even if they should do well, the basic math will still be there. they will have to abandon one of three points of the stool. it is mathematically impossible. there will have to abandon keeping taxes -- preventing tax increases in the middle class. i don't think they want to do that or they will have to abandon lowering the rates on the wealthy or deficit-reduction proposal i think if they are in charge, they will not want to have lack of deficit-reduction on their shoulder

put the most points on the board. now, no, governor romney, he is a good debater. i'm just ok. but what i'm most concerned about is having a serious discussion about what we need to do to keep the country growing and restore security for hard- working americans. that is what people are going to be listening for, that is the debate that you deserve. because in the coming weeks, you are going to have a big choice to make, nev., and it is and not just a choice between two candidates or two political parties. it is a choice between two different paths for this country. it is a choice between two and fundamentally different visions for our nation. i believe as a nation we are moving forward again. we are not where we need to be at. we have a lot more work to do in nevada and across the country to make the middle class secure again, to give ladders of opportunity for folks who are fighting to get into the middle class. the question is, whose plan is better for you?
